This week has been Vacation Bible School at our church, which is Troy's big event. The theme is Serengeti Trek, and so of course Huck has shown up each night in some safari type outfit. Much to my surprise, his drawers are filled with outfits that have little elephants and giraffes on them.;)
Huck is a superstar celebrity at VBS, with adults and children screaming when they see him and taking pictures as if he is a movie star. He is gracious to his adoring public at first, giving them smiles and giggles, but then he remembers that he is actually an introvert and hides his face in my shoulder and becomes terribly shy. He leaves 'em wanting more. Here he is with Rosie and Abbie and some other girlfriends.

The highlight of the evening for Huck is singing and dancing in the sanctuary, led by Farmer Troy (or Daddy, as Huck knows him). I hold Huck and twirl him around and do all kinds of fancy dance moves while he squeals and screams with excitement. He's had more stimulation this week than his entire five and a half months of life. And this morning a second tooth appeared! Basically we're all needing a nap right now.

Today has been a bit of a special day for lil' Huck. Not only is it his cousin Lily's very first birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PINKY!), but it's also the day that Huck began to sort of hold his arms out to us. He also sort of used a cup and he sort of sat in the baby swing at the park! It's a day of sort ofs! His tooth is very definitely coming in, and let me tell you: it is one cute little tooth. Nothing sort of about that. However, it is not big enough yet to capture on film. But once it is, watch out! It will be a whole baby blog devoted to pictures of a tooth.Other things that Huck has been doing lately include scratching everything in sight so that he can feel texture, with his favorite being our old ratty coffee table trunk. He also is walking! Well, we have to be holding his hands of course, but he literally puts one foot in front of the other and walks, all the while laughing very happily. He is excited to walk for real someday. He loves his ExerSaucer and his Johnny Jumper thing and has figured out how to jump and twirl around. The world is getting very fun for him. One of his favorite things to do is hit his toys aggressively and watch Max bark. This is not Mommy and Daddy's favorite thing, and so the poor old dog finds himself locked in the bedroom more and more these days. Huck continues to roll over as if there is a spring on the ground, and he is lasting longer on his tummy thanks to sort of being able to pull himself up on his hands. What a kid!

disturbing

Imagine waking up to the sound of a loud, creepy organ playing the theme song from "Welcome Back Kotter" and being surrounded by large colorful fake horses with wide opened mouths. This happened to poor Huck yesterday when we took him to the Central Park carousel with Uncle Ronnie and Aunt Dottie.;)
Equally disturbing for Huck is a tiny tooth that has officially broken through the skin! We will keep you updated on its progress. Someday soon Huck will have a real live tooth in his mouth! Hopefully it will be the only one, since none of us really like the whole teething baby thing.

Most days it is so sweet to have a baby. Hours are filled with cute giggles and precious sounds, and you can't get enough of the wonderful smells.Then there are days like today. It all began innocently enough this morning as we cuddled on the couch and communicated to each other with gurgles and grunts. But then he put his fingers up my nose while giggling and farting simultaneously. (Him, not me.) I had to physically remove his fingers from my nose so that I could breathe.
A little bit of time went by and then he threw up on both of us, causing Max to actually run out of the way for fear that he, too, would be covered with runny white stuff. Next he had an explosive poop that actually shot out of his diapers onto his onesie and thus onto me, his momsie. He then threw up again on both of us, followed by another explosive diaper. Because it was a big teething day, he was drooling like crazy and the top half of all his clothes became soaking wet within four seconds. He made lots of aggressive spit bubbles, and when he cried he shot spit out of his mouth on purpose because the poor thing was in pain. I'm not exaggerating: Huck and I together went through seventeen hundred and fifty outfits today.
Thankfully he is VERY cute.
